The Baseball Draft Report

Back

Thanks to everybody who stuck around over the past few months, especially those who dropped a line in the comments or via email wondering about the latest update. As the title suggests, yes, I am back and ready to get posting again regularly. 2017 has largely been about research, compiling notes, and watching live baseball, but it’s past time to get back into a steady routine writing around here.

Now what do you want to read? I’m sitting on a mountain of amateur baseball information with no real plan of how to get it from my screen to yours. College/conference team previews? Prospect lists by position? First person accounts? Irresponsible hot takes? In a perfect world it would be all of the above, but, due to real world job obligations and a baby coming sooner rather than later, prioritizing content feels like more of a necessity this draft season than in years past. My initial hunch is that a top __ list is the way to go, so making a bunch of position lists before putting them altogether to create a first go of a 2017 Top 30? 50? 100? might make sense.

Open to just about anything, so hit me up in the comments or via email (robozga at gmail dot com) to chat. In the meantime, I’m shooting for something actually draft-related to go live on the site by the end of the week.

Would like to see a top 50 prospect draft list. Who is moving up boards? Pratto Austin beck or no addell?

    • Rob Ozga says:

A top 50 list is a great idea, Jim. I’ll go position by position for a bit (college catchers just went up today) before culminating in a top 50 (100? 200?) before too long.

  2. Ant says:

Like what you did last year with conference previews + Prospect list for each conference. As well as prospects from each team

    • Rob Ozga says:

Prospects for each team is very doable as I have all the info ready to go and just need to format it to get it on the site. The actual analysis piece (a few team “previews” and a bunch of conference things) should start rolling out shortly. Those are some of my favorite things to write, so I pretty much can’t help myself from doing them even if I’ll ultimately run out of time to complete them all…

    I’ll be sending an email

Congratulations on the baby, Rob. Looking forward to all of the draft info you can share !!! How about you start it off with a top 100 ???!!!

    • Rob Ozga says:

We’ll creep out way to a top 100 (or more…) after doing a few days of position by position lists. Doing it that way keeps me organized and helps make the rankings a little bit more exhaustive than if I tried to cobble something together without having the position specific lists first. Plus it helps build the excitement of the final reveal…as much for me as for the readers!

And thanks for the baby well wishes! Wife just texted me the weekly size update. Turns out it’s now the size of a pineapple…just hope for her sake it doesn’t come out as spiky.

That’s probably the worst joke I’ve ever made. I regret nothing.
