Shadow drafting for the Phillies, here are my top thirty picks. Questions of signability almost render an exercise like this meaningless, but I tried to be as realistic as I could. I also tried to select backups for my most questionable picks (e.g. Preston Tucker reportedly has very high demands, so I grabbed Taylor Ard as a contingency plan). I also tried to stack positions with a college prospect and a prep prospect, as in the case with drafting Matt Skole and Matt Dean, both 3B, in back to back rounds. Here’s what I wound up with…
1.39 Kent State SO LHP Andrew Chafin
2.66 Academia la Milagrosa (PR) RHP Jorge Lopez

…and here is a look at my best shot at a big board telling you who the best available prospects in the 2011 MLB are (alternate title: players who are in no way signable, but fun to dream about). I’ll add to this as the night goes on. In the meantime, if I included somebody who was already drafted then please let me know in the comments or via email…

What about RHP Aaron Wilkerson from Cumberland University. He has been 1st Team All-American for the last two years in a row. He has unbelievalbe stats. He is 6’3” 195lbs. He is an awesome pitcher for the Cumberland bulldogs. He helped them win the NAIA world series last year and make it all the way to the world series this year. I want to know why no one is bragging about him. I think that Aaron should be added to a scouting report somewhere.
His numbers and his size both look really good, but I’ll be honest and admit I don’t know anything beyond what you just told me. Sorry. Any reports on his stuff, i.e. what kind of pitches he throws?
He throws a fast ball 92-96, he throws a change, curve, and sinker. He can vary his speeds from a consistant 93 to a change at 78. I wish I had more information for you. I am not a scout, I wish I could get into the scouting reports for more information. Maybe you know someone who can look them up.
He has been contacted by a couple of scouts this year and last so they have to have some stats on him somewhere. I know that he was 14-1 last year with an 2.16ERA He went 26+ scoreless innings this year. I am just trying to get his name out there somewhere because he deserves this opportunity. Thank you for any help you can give.
That’s good information, thanks. The repertoire sounds pro quality to me and his college stats are outstanding. I can ask around for more information and I’ll definitely have my fingers crossed for him tomorrow.
